When clients ask me what Massage Cupping is, I often describe it as a kind of “reverse massage.” Instead of pressing into the body, the cups gently lift the tissue—creating space, stimulating circulation, and helping the body release what it no longer needs.

Massage Cupping has its roots in traditional cupping therapy, used for centuries in Eastern medicine. But in this version, the focus is on relaxation, flow, and nervous system support. It’s one of my favorite tools to use during a session, because it works with your body in such a unique and effective way.

What Happens During a Cupping Session?

In your session, I’ll use soft plastic or silicone cups to create gentle suction on the surface of your skin. Depending on what your body needs, I may:

  •  Leave the cups in one place for a few minutes
  •  Glide them across an area to stimulate movement
  •  Combine them with other techniques for deeper relief

Most people describe the sensation as warm, soothing, and almost tingly. It’s not uncommon for clients to feel so relaxed that they drift off during their session.

What Are the Benefits?

Massage Cupping can help:

  •  Calm and regulate the nervous system
  •  Improve circulation and tissue hydration
  •  Loosen tight, sore muscles and fascia
  •  Support detoxification and lymphatic flow

It’s especially helpful for areas that feel stuck or resistant to other forms of treatment—like stiff necks, tight hamstrings, sore backs, or long-held tension.

Will I Have Marks?

Sometimes, cupping leaves behind temporary circular marks (often called “cup kisses”), but not always. When I use cupping, I take your preferences and goals into account, so we can adjust techniques to avoid or minimize marking when needed.

These marks aren’t painful—they’re a sign that circulation has increased and healing is underway.

Who Is It Good For?

Cupping is safe and effective for most people, and I often integrate it into sessions focused on:

  •  Stress relief and nervous system reset
  •  Chronic pain and tightness
  •  Athletic recovery or mobility issues
  •  Postural imbalances and stuck energy

Whether we’re using it on its own or alongside other treatments like Myofascial Therapy, cupping is one of the most supportive and versatile tools I offer.

If you’re curious, I’d love to talk with you about whether Massage Cupping might be right for you.
